3 Ways to Transform Your Home with Magazine-Worthy Halloween Decor

Halloween might be considered a child’s holiday, but grown-ups can enjoy the costumery, candy, and candlelit spookiness too. Add to your family’s festivities and contribute to your community’s Halloween spirit with themed decor inside and outside of your home. Halloween can be a tough holiday to decorate for without getting kitschy or childish, though, so save the orange plastic pumpkins and rubber black bats for the kiddos. Instead, follow our three tips below for Halloween decor that is modern, elevated, and chic.

Greet Guests with Gorgeous Door Wreaths

Set the tone with a themed door wreath that makes a first impression on your guests and adds curb appeal. Minimal wreath designs keep things visually clean, perfect for complementing the existing architectural details of your home. Metal hoop wreaths with sparse foliage (like this one) have become increasingly popular this season. Incorporate spooky elements like black feathers or webs. Or, go for a more organic feel with fall florals or dried herbs. This list has lots of options to spark inspiration! Door wreaths are one of the biggest design trends of the moment, and they are an easy place to start bringing the Halloween spirit to your home. Best of all, there are so many options out there that it is easy to find one that fits with your current design aesthetic, whether that is minimal, trendy, or otherwise.

Go for the Gold with Gourds

Leave the big orange pumpkins behind and elevate your Halloween aesthetic with their lesser-known cousin: gourds. Your arrangement can be as simple as a basket full of gourds or get much more creative. Gourds look great scattered across your autumn tablescape or outside your front door. You can mix in their more traditional pumpkin cousins or just stick with gourds. There are many different types of gourds, so make sure you mix in all kinds of shapes, colors, and textures to make the most of your gold-medal gourds. Alternatively, spray paint your gourds and pumpkins all white or black, with the occasional gold.

Take Advantage of Your Space with Scaled Decorations

One of the biggest architectural trends right now is vaulted ceilings. These tall spaces add drama to any room, and even more so when seasonal decor is added! Although these spaces can present some challenges when decorating, they also offer opportunities to truly wow any and all of your guests. Imagine a fifteen-foot high spiderweb! For even more drama, follow one of the biggest design trends of 2019 and go black: incorporate full-length black velvet drapes or even paint the entire wall black for a sophisticated take on Halloween decor. Take advantage of your home’s height on the exterior, too. For example, a ghostly figure can grace the entranceway.

Following any of the ideas above or coming up with some of your own will give your home a modern interpretation on Halloween decor sure to put you, your family, and any visitors in the spirit of All Hallow’s Eve.
