Peak Performance: An Interview with Realtor Lorrie Dinner

    Tell us a little bit about you and your background. How long have you been in the industry?

    Well, I was born and raised in Dallas. I’ve been selling real estate for a little over 20 years. Before that, I had done a number of little things – I had a little job at a preschool (my educational background is in special ed). I did teach for a bit while selling real estate, and I had a little dancewear store. I did lots of things while my children were small. Then I got divorced, and I went into real estate because it’s the one career – as a woman – that you can make your own hours and make your own money.

    What drives you to be the best at what you do?

    Really, it’s serving other people. I know that sounds really cheesy, but for me, it’s true. Initially, I wanted to go to the University of Denver and get a degree in social work – so this is my kind of way to do social work, meaning getting people to a better place in their lives. I love helping people reach their goals, and I love the interaction with them.

     

    What does being a realtor mean to you and your clients?

    Well, if I helped my clients, it means a successful home purchase that they’re happy with and good financial decisions. For me? It means kind of what I just said – it’s my way of helping other people achieve their goals while supporting myself.

    In today’s market, why is it important for a buyer or home seller to use a realtor to buy or sell a home?

    First of all, it’s more complicated than it seems on the surface – not only in terms of finding the right house for the person and looking at all the pros and cons of that particular property but all the negotiation that comes into the actual purchase. There’s the purchase price, condition of the home, and all the situations that can come up legally. We are practicing limited law – and it’s essential that you are following those rules of practicing limited law.\

    Individuals can’t really know all the ins and outs of what could happen without the proper frame. So, to do it on your own as a for-sale-by-owner or with these companies that do nothing for a client but put it to an MLS – you’re not really getting what’s in your best interest.

     

    What’s your favorite thing about living in Colorado?

    The weather. It’s sunny, it’s beautiful, it’s temperate year-round. We have a little bit of snow, a bit of heat in the summers, and we’ve got seasons. We’ve got the gorgeous panorama of the mountain view. There are lots of outdoor activities. It’s a beautiful place to live.

    What’s one fun thing about you?

    It’s the whole package that’s uniquely me. I have a hilarious sense of humor – this perfect little bit of wisdom, and I’m a character!
