    Peak Performance: An Interview with Realtor Morgan Phillips

    Can you give me a little bit about you and your background? What prompted you to get into the real estate industry?

    I’m a Colorado native. I’m originally from Parker. I grew up there, went to college in Boulder, and then went on to Denver, and then I moved up here a few years ago. 

    I first started in Denver as a leasing agent. As I was doing leasing, I found I really liked being in the industry – everyone gets excited when they get a new home, whether they’re renting or buying. Being part of that excitement was great. Then, I found out that I was pretty good at it! So, I decided to jump in to get my real estate license, and from there moved up here to Northern Colorado. I’ve been up here for three years. It’s been a great experience. I went from property management to Peak Properties, and it’s been growing ever since. I love it. 

    What drives you to be the best at what you do in real estate?

    Well, with real estate – it’s a big deal to people. They’re spending thousands of dollars on what’s going to be the biggest investment of their life. I just recently bought my house, and I don’t know what I would have done if I had worked with a realtor who pushed me into something I didn’t want or didn’t care about my needs. That just makes me want to be the best I can be for buyers or sellers. I don’t want them to make a bad decision that can affect the rest of their life just because I didn’t want to put in 100%. 

    What does being a realtor mean to you and your clients? 

    It means being a source of information and support. We’re supposed to be experts in our field, and people I’ve been working with, for example – they’re a lot of first-time buyers, and they have no idea what the process is. So it means being there for them at any time of day if they have any questions, along with being there at inspection and closing – making sure they have our support no matter where they are in the process. 

    In today’s market, why is it important for a buyer or a home seller to use a realtor to buy or sell a home?

    The market is always changing. A lot of people think that they can do it on their own, or that big companies can make it easy for them. However, doing it on their own or going to big companies doesn’t give you the source of information of somebody who has studied it, who works at it every day, can give you the best deal and can work for you. I mean, if you’re working for yourself, that’s great – but you don’t know the market like a professional does. If you’re working with a big company, they’re just putting you in a group of a thousand other people. So, working with a realtor in this kind of market is best to make sure you’re getting the best deal for yourself. 

    What do you want prospective clients to know about you?

    That I work for you. I don’t want to make you settle on anything you’re not comfortable with. I had one situation recently where it seemed like the couple was going to settle on a brand-new place – but I knew they were in love with a different property. So we drove back an hour away, talked, and decided that was the best property for them.

    I’m not going to push you into something just because I want to get the deal done. I will work with you for months – for a year or more – if it means finding the right property. 

     

     

    What’s your best memory/client success story within the real estate industry?

    There’s one couple that was actually tenants of mine; after I moved, I kept in touch with them. They’re first-time home buyers, and they knew nothing about the process. They didn’t know any realtors, so they kept in contact with me. They were very stressed by the whole process. So, I jumped in, and I wanted to make sure that they knew everything was okay if we find them the right property. A week later, they did, and we’re closing soon. It’s a great success story. I started with them as renters, and now they’re homeowners. 

    What’s your favorite thing about living in Colorado?

    The seasons. Thankfully, there are four seasons. It’s beautiful in the summer and beautiful in the winter. Also, it’s just a nice atmosphere up here. It’s a whole different attitude with people. It’s lovely.

    What’s one fun thing about you?

    Oh, it’s got to be my dogs. I have a lab and a St. Bernard and I take them everywhere. Everybody knows my dogs. They’re beautiful and crazy. I post about them on social media all the time, and I think they’re great. They make me a fun person.
