Can you give me a little bit about you and your background? What prompted you to get into the real estate industry?
I’m originally from Chicago, and I grew up in the Midwest. I actually lived in Summit County for about five years while I went to school at Colorado Mountain College. After school, I ended up moving back to Chicago for about three years for some opportunities. After that, I said, “hell no, I’m coming back to Colorado, and I’ll never leave it.”
The allure of the real estate industry was what prompted me to get into it. If you look at any millionaire, any billionaire, they all have a real-estate hardware portfolio. That, and the freedom to make my own schedule, that’s what brought me into the business. What made me stick with the business? I noticed a tremendous need from clients for great agents that care about them, care about the process, and don’t just them as some transaction.
What drives you to be the best at what you do in real estate?
Helping people, to be completely honest with you. I think that this is an essential, huge decision for people in their lives. I’m actually going through the homeownership process right now myself. I know that it can be so stressful, and how important it is for people. It’s nice for people to have somebody that they can rely on – not only in a professional sense but also as a friend and companion, a ride-or-die person that they can turn to and get an honest, upfront answer. They know that at the end of the day, we have their back.
What does being a realtor mean to you and your clients?
To me, it means being a professional in every sense of the word. It also means not losing touch with who I am as a person. I feel that being an agent or a realtor, I’m really able to not only be myself – but also to excel and make things happen on my own terms, at my own pace. I’m a little impatient. Sometimes, if I want something done, I just get it done – as opposed to the traditional corporate America framework or any other job, where there are a lot of hoops to jump through. That limits what you could be as a person. In all, I think it’s about being an individual, a professional, and really shining.
In today’s market, why is it important for a buyer or a home seller to use a realtor to buy or sell a home?
There’s a lot of technology out there now for people – let’s specifically talk about Zillow, for example. People think that they can go online and get all the information they need, without any guidance from a realtor. That sometimes makes my job easier, because clients will be more informed. However, you just can’t replace human intuition and that innate knowledge of the process and how deals develop. You just can’t replace a human with a computer – if that makes sense.
What do you want prospective clients to know about you?
That I’m here for them. I’m not in it, necessarily, for the transaction, the money, the commission. I’m here to help them succeed in their goals – whether it be buying, renting, whatever. I’m here to help them navigate through their life, be successful, and be happy with the purchase they made. I want them to know I’m there for them, not only as their agent and local professional source of knowledge but also as a friend they can enjoy a beer with and hang out, go snowboarding, whatever.
What’s your best memory/client success story within the real estate industry?
It involved a good friend from high school. I sold their house, and they bought it with me as well. In that specific scenario, it really came down to days in terms of everything falling into place. We found a place they liked, and we wrote an offer as their house was still on the market. I then did an open house forum, and within the next week, they had multiple offers on the table. So, honestly, it was just very nice to see everything fall into place. That doesn’t always happen. Since they were my good friends, I was just very happy for them that everything worked out the way it did.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Colorado?
Oh, the powder for skiing and snowboarding and the beer. I’m from the Midwest, so skiing out there can be pretty lousy. Colorado has the mountains, the view, and the culture. It’s an entirely different culture here in Colorado, as opposed to Chicago. People out here are generally nicer, I think.
What’s one fun thing about you?
How about this: I’m bilingual, and I speak Polish. That was actually my first language.
